A change in location

Well....it has been a bit since I have posted anything. BAD MOMMY!!! Elder Campbell's older brother Mitch got married on the 15th of Aug. and so life has been a little bit busy....Anyhoo, Elder Campbell got tranferred this last week to Glendale Arizona! He was hoping to stay in Flagstaff for one more round before getting transferred since they had started working with 4 new families, but no such luck.
He is right in the heart of the valley and covers the Glenlakes Ward and the Glendale Young Single Adult Branch. So far, so good! He is also dealing with how to get along with those you don't have much in common with- his companion! His companion sounds like the complete opposite of Elder Campbell, but I am sure he will learn lots of new things! His name is Elder Hill and he is from California. This will be a learning and growing experience for both, I am sure!!

Here is the latest email from Elder Campbell. I absolutely HATE it, did I say HATE it when I get emails saying there has been a bike accident!! No worries though...He is fine!

Hey family, Hows it goin? We had a good week this week. Did a lot of tracting. Zone Conference was in cottonwood and sister beck gave a really cool talk about opening up the windows of heaven. So we decided to apply it. We planned extra hard and detailed. Then we tracted alot that week. We ended up getting 4 new investigators. One of them happens to be our neighbor. His name is Oz. We were walking back from tracting and i needed to use the bathroom so we went to Bushmaster park. On our way out this guy called us over and it was Oz we got to talking and he has been looking for a church and been making lots of changes in his life. He thought it was cool that we were missionaries he always just thought we were office workers. So we have an appt. For tommorow. I got in a bike wreck last night. Ran into a iron fence and dislocated my shoulder and bruised all the knuckles on my hands but im ok! my bike wheel in the front however....oh well. Learned how to make frybread! you take 2 cups of flour 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 2 teaspooons of baking powder and mix that together. Than you take really really warm water and you make a hole in your dry mix and pour the water in that hole till its at the top. then you mix together the dough by hand kneading it carefully! and then you take the dough off a little bit and flatten it out like pizza but smaller. Then in a deep skillet you fry it in the crisco that looks like whipped cream!

It has been a bit since I have posted- it has been busy around the Campbell house! We just got back from Chelan for the first time without Ty. It was really weird..Didn't hear "hey mom, I am going to go snake hunting!" at all this time. Didn't feel the same- now that both the boys are off doing things it was just Maddi left. She brought her friend Beth so she didn't have to deal with Mom and Dad the whole time! We did get to hear from Elder Campbell twice this last week because of the 4th of July!! He said they have three baptisms coming up on July 18th. One investigator, and two children of record. He also said he is learning Navajo. He can't read it yet, but is learning to talk in it. He also has his tags now in Navajo too. He is really enjoying the challenge of learning the Navajo language. It is EXTREMELY hard, but his is determined to master it!! He said that they do a lot of service projects and that there are a lot of inactivie families in his area, but they do get fed dinner every night. Thank goodness for that! He is still with his trainer Elder Flory and having a great time.

What's happening....

The work is frustratinig we usually have our studies in the morning and then we go tract for about 2 hours at 10 am and then come home for lunch then we make visits or go to appointments. Coool story about tracting yesterday. About 2 weeks ago we were goin to see a refferall down the street and saw these ladies moving. So we asked if they needed help because they had a lot of heavy furniture and so they said sure. We helped them and they were greatful and said thank you. Well yesterday we had been tracting and it was one of our last houses and it ended up being the lady who we had helped move and we have a appointment for this coming wed.!

Sunny Arizona......or rainy Flagstaff!

Email day!

I so look forward to Wednesdays! Elder Campbell starts to email and we "talk" back and forth for a little bit. He said Flagstaff is starting to get warmer. It has almost rained every day since he has gotten there- but the storms are starting to move out! And he thought Arizona was going to be sunny and warm!! HA! I asked him how the work was going and he said "The work has been tough, lots of slammed doors in my face!" He was excited for Pday- they were going on a hike around Lake Mary. he also said they were supposed to meet with one Navajo girl who cancelled her appointment previously. I told him to keep praying and working hard, and success will happen. I asked him if he had a bicycle helmet that he was wearing. He said no, because they would have to special order him one. Why you ask??? Well he has one BIG cranium!! So, first order of business was to find a place on the internet that sold helmets for big headed kids. Talk about a good laugh....we had fun trying to find one but we did and it should be to him soon. Now will he wear it is another story......

Elder Campbell's trainer is named Elder Flory. In his letter today he wrote: " I am in Flagstaff my first area. It is so beautiful- I love it! 7,000ft up green and rainy. My trainer is cool. Our apartment is tiny though. We have been doing a lot of tracting since we don't know the ward yet." The picture of Elder Campbell and Elder Flory looks like they both might be up to something.....Hmmm......Double trouble I say.... It is great to know that Elder Campbell is having a good experience in his first area. He is on a bike so of course the first email was...Hey mom and dad, love you but send money NOW! I wonder what the next one will say.....

Well today we got two letters- one from his Mission President and one from Elder Campbell! The first night they took a picture of Elder Campbell with President and Sister Beck. Elder Campbell sure looks sharp in his suit! They had a new missionary orientation and dinner that night followed by a testimony meeting. He said he could tell Elder Campbell has a tender heart! He is right- looks can be deceiving! Elder Campbell is really a big teddy bear!!

Elder Campbell at the Provo Temple and look- he's wearing his watch! Thanks Elise!!

Two years in the Life....

This blog is dedicated to two years in the life of Elder Tyler Campbell. He was called to serve in the Arizona Phoenix Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I promised my son that I would do this blog so that all his friends could be kept up to date on his adventures! After spending three weeks in the Missionary Training Center, he finally left for Arizona on Tuesday!! We waited with anticipation for his call early that morning. The phone FINALLY rang!! Music to a mother's ears! Can you tell I miss my boy? He was excited to be on his way. He was traveling with his companion Elder Schneider. They have become fast friends. That is truly a gift Ty or I guess I need to say Elder Campbell has- he can make anyone feel like they are his best buddy!! He loves people and they love him. That will serve him well on his mission.

Wednesday I got a call from his Mission President. He said that Elder Campbell had arrived safely and his first area will be Flagstaff! I googled Flagstaff and found it to look a lot like Washington. That will be good for him- he will feel right at home! As soon as I know his address I will post it so you can all start those letters to him!!
